And the paint saga continues…
The office was such a dark color, it needed a second coat. The second coat had to wait until today. I hit Lowe’s and wound up coming home with three gallons of paint. Hmmm. And the lights were on clearance, so I have 4 new hallway lights…as soon as they get installed.
So, this is what the office looks like with a 2nd coat.

The paint was on SALE this week, so that is bad news. The kitchen and living room are scheduled for this summer, but I tried the brown in the hallway first. The hallway was supposed to be the lightest color, and I had two other shades for the other two rooms. Not sure how it’s going to work now, since the color I used is darker than I thought…what do you think? (That’s one of the ugly lights that’s going too).

And lastly, the front door was bothering me. And the shutters, but there’s no ten foot ladder. The shutters have a reprieve for now, but the paint is waiting for them. In the garage.

I did take all the blue tape off too, FYI.
My sidekick got a little tired and sluffed off while I finished up…

Here’s a true ‘oh shit’ moment that happend this afternoon.
There was a thunderstorm brewing over the house – literally – all afternoon. Thunder, dark, swirling clouds, etc. Finally, about 3:30 it started to thunder louder and rain. Then there was the distinct tink…tink…tink on the window. I went out back to look and sure enough, hail.
And more hail.
It hailed for a full six minutes. The plants all look like hell. The tree is ripped all apart at the top because it hailed last week and already took the top layer of leaves off. But here’s the oh shit moment…
The wind is blowing straight out of the north and the rain and hail are hitting the northern windows. Suddenly, it all stops. The wind, the rain, the hail, immediately quits.
And then it blows like crazy straight out of the SOUTH. All of the furniture starts sliding across the deck, the trees are bending and the wind is howling. Oh shit. A change in wind direction usually only means one thing. One windy, swirling, funnel shaped thing.
Of course I don’t go downstairs. I want to see something besides hail. But nothing happened. I turned on the TV and they said there was a tornado or funnel cloud downtown, but nothing here. Oh shit moment passed with nothing else interesting to report besides pictures.

Brandon Inge angles for a lucrative pillow endorsement
By ‘Duk
We’ve heard about players getting hurt while sneezing, while sleepwalking through a nightmare about spiders and after kicking an iron bar stool.
But we had never heard of a pillow-lifting injury in baseball — that is, until Detroit Tigers‘ everyman Brandon Inge reported an overstuffed owie on Wednesday, earning a feather-paved (and probably overdue) path to the injury list.
The details, from the Free Press:
“It was the stupidest, most freakish thing,” Inge said Wednesday, explaining why he had just been placed on the 15-day DL with the pulled side muscle (oblique) he suffered 3 1/2 weeks ago.”I have a 3-year-old son who sleeps in the bed with my wife and me,” Inge said. “I was trying to push the pillow down behind his head (two nights ago), and when I did … I repopped (the strained muscle).
“You take swings in baseball, and it’s not as bad as pushing a pillow down.”
Upon hearing this story, manager Jim Leyland said, “That’s a first.”
It definitely is a first, but I think anyone who’s getting up there in age — like myself and Mr. Inge — can relate to feeling a little pain in the obliques or lower back when doing random things.
Heck, while formatting this blog, I threw my back out three different times. I’m guessing a few people probably did while reading it, too. It’s a dangerous world out there.
Mitchell’s last game was Monday night. The game was pretty close and a nail biter all the way to the end. The horrible umpire didn’t help matters, but Mitchell’s team didn’t win, so they didn’t move up in the championship rounds…
We’ve had this little mystery in the backyard for awhile now. There has been spots of poop on the deck, near the bird feeders and around the ground. This is what it looks like (WARNING: FINISH your dinner before you look further!):

I hadn’t seen any for a week or so. Until yesterday. There was a nice little pile under the sunflower feeder. And last night I was working with the window open and the neighbor’s dog barked. And barked. Ten minutes later, guess what?

A skunk! Pew!! Pepe le Pew has taken up residence nearby.
I have not seen it, but now I’ll be looking for it. It seems everything else lives in the backyard, why not a skunk?
Ahhhhh…TGIF! We hit McDonald’s and then the spray park for some fun. It’s only been a week and I’m already hearing whining about being bored! Ugh. Here’s some pictures from today:
Tonight was the last coach pitch game for Sean… He caught a beautiful line drive in right field…and it was Zach’s!
This is what happens when I get writer’s block…I sit and stare at the screen. Then I start looking around the room. I wonder what if I… and now look what happened!
I tore apart the room. I taped. I painted. I had help. Now it’s drying, and I’m sitting in a huge mess trying to get some work done. Not working out here…
My writer’s block is still not gone, so I’ll probably get myself in more trouble. The kitchen could use some paint…
OK…I’ve never seen this kind of road work before, and I’ve seen a lot of road work. I’m glad they had a ‘Men Working’ sign up because I wouldn’t have guessed they were working. I was waiting for the sound of carnival music to be pumped out from the truck, since it seemed like a dog and pony show going down the road.
The truck was going slower than idle, one man was out front pulling a hose and spraying things in the road, there were two men in back with hoses and a third who just walked behind them. He didn’t have a ringleader hat on, but I assume he was the boss. There might have even been another guy walking for good measure…who knows. I think only air came out of the hoses since the road didn’t look wet.
Do they clean the road before they paint? Resurface? Whatever they did didn’t make sense because no paint truck followed behind. The orange cones are just sitting in the road, where they have been for a couple of hours now…
Keep your fingers crossed, I’m negotiating with a publisher of children’s material who is starting up and looking for material to print. They are new to the children’s market so they don’t really know what they need (red flag) but they have an operating budget (green light). They want a ‘few’ books, but are waiting on this editor and this editor and blah blah blah. If it works, it could be really cool…
