Guess who showed up when the rain quit?

he\'s back!

And then look what else happened….

Awwwww

Look closely at the pictures.  What do you notice?

Here’s another try:

TWO!!

Check both sides.  TWO babies came out this afternoon.  One has a white stripe on its forehead and the other one doesn’t.  They are both really small, and the medium sized one I saw before hasn’t apeared.  But…since there are two, I can still deny one got flown off.  The owls are still OK…just not as OK as before.

The bunnies are cute now, until they start eating the garden.  Then I’ll probably change my mind.

And then we found a toad in the front when we were weeding. It’s all good until the snakes appear.

Remember the cute little bunny in the yard?

 Thumper

Yesterday morning there were two at one time, apparently from a nest under the shed.  More than one nest?  I don’t know, but the babies were obviously different ages, so there may be two nests or else they were very close batches by the same parent.  Anyway….

Last night the boys were in bed, the patio door was open, the cats were chilling on the floor and there was a horrible screech noise outside the patio door.  The cats took off and hid instantly.  Now, backtrack one hour…

I saw at least one rabbit outside in front of the shed after I watered the trees.  The bunnies can get under the shed fast with a hole in the front and back under the siding, so I never got close to it.  So, I put a bunch of baby carrots out right in front of the hole.  Fast forward to dusk.

The screech is most likely – even though I am still in denial – the sound of an animal being killed.  Those three Great Horned owls I was liking listening too – not so happy right now.  There was no whoosh right outside the screen so I know it wasn’t a hawk.  Plus it was getting pretty dark.  The screen door is about 15 feet from the bunnies and since it was silent before the screech, one of the fricking owls probably got the little baby I was trying to feed.

The rest of the carrots are still in the grass and neither baby has been spotted yet today.  I guess I was right when I thought the rabbits got taken by the owls last year.  I hoped they would last a little longer this time.

 Some days nature just sucks.

Name that critter update…

Well, Sasquatch must not live in the woods in the back.  Or else if he does, he doesn’t like venison.  Three and four deer have been out every night, at the edge of the woods eating the freshly planted field. deer  deer x2

There is a fawn too, but never catch in a picture.

And we also have baby bunnies in the front yard.

Hopefully the bunnies will last longer this year.  The three owls got the rabbit family last year…I think.

Name that animal…

This is what went walking across the field this afternoon.  It was almost back to the woods, I couldn’t find the binoculars and this is as far as the zoom lens on the camera would go.  Crappy, yeah I know.

So, what do you think it is?  Turkey?  This is easily 300+ yards back behind the house.  Can you see a turkey that far away?

That’s my guess, but there is also coyotes back there.  And deer and pheasants.  You could make a case that it looks like a sasquatch too… standing up, with a lighter colored chest…ha!  Let’s get that rumor started in Freeland.

Turkey? Coyote? Sasquatch?

Deadbeat Clients

Filed under: freelance writing, writing — by tinamarie11 @ 10:11 pm

Since this is a writing blog, I should probably post about writing once in a while.   And this is what happened today and I’m still steamed about it, so you get to hear about it too…

There is a little back story you have to suffer through first.  This client hired me through elance in late February, and I won’t mention names because I don’t want them to get attention.  One person was the contact, I did the work, I was supposed to be paid weekly.  Welllllll, that happened the first three weeks.  Then the excuses came out….the bank messed it up….there was a typo…blah blah blah.  As of two weeks ago, the outstanding balance was $600, which for what the job was, was a lot f money.  After back and forth promises of money for one week, I said no more work until they paid in full.

Then the excuses poured in again…it’s our new year here, everyone is on vacation.  Fine.  Then the cyclone – OK, they are in Phuket, so I let them have that one.  They promised money on Thursday…nothing.  Ignored emails, IMs…When the jerkwad finally replied to my IM Friday night, he said there was a typo in my name and it would go out again Saturday morning.

Nothing Saturday morning.  And they are 7 hours ahead, so we have time difference problems too.

I am a very patient person…too patient by most standards.  So, when yesterday and this morning’s IMs went unanswered, I snapped.  Too many idiots, too many assholes and too many liars to deal with lately and I snapped.  The ultimatum went out.  Pay by noon or else the matter was being turned over to collections blah blah blah.  Real scary threat, I know.

And we all know collections across continents doesn’t do shit.  So, I did one better.  This client and the job was blogging, which means I have my own login ID and password and access to the content on their site since I posted it.  MY content which was building their site, getting hits, visitors and revenue for them.

Or at least it was.

Since they didn’t pay for the content, it was still under my copyright.  I owned the rights to allllll of that work getting their site attention.  Until I took it all down.  All 110 posts – well over 25 hours of work – down.  Deleted.  Gone from their site.  Vanished without a trace.

And I made sure to do it when it was after hours their time, since they had such a problem figuring out my working hours.  They won’t know it is gone for approximately 3 hours…or 1 AM our time.  I’m even considering staying up to see when they do discover it missing, how fast it takes them to find me.

Except I’ll be gone and ignore THEIR IM’s.  Yeah, I might be out $600 with them, but I saved the content.  It will be sold elsewhere, and they can’t have it.  Losers.

I’m not a spiteful person, but it felt good this time.

  My bad mood...

Where is Spring??

I’m getting tired of sitting outside watching soccer and baseball and freezing my azz off.  Where is the spring weather – heck, where is the summer weather?

If it is going to be this cold, we may as well have snow.  Err, wait.  I didn’t say that.  We’ll end up like this again:

Sunrise...

Yeah, it was pretty, but we don’t need it for 6 months or so…please!

Writing partners…

This is the only kind of writing partner you can trust.  The only problem is, they shed a lot right now.  And when the third one decides he wants to be on the desk, they fight.  Just like the boys…
